Saturday Night Live

Well, there was nary a Xena skit in sight for this Lucy Lawless-hosted edition of SNL. I was kind of surprised, but I suppose that would have been just too obvious. Instead, the monologue took care of the requisite lesbian references and jokes, and the rest of the show was pretty good. A cut above their normal fare, and I'm sure it was due to Lucy's presence.

Lots of lesbian jokes (what a surprise), but it was tastefully done, and you could tell from the reaction of a section in the audience that there were some Meow Mix regulars there to cheer Lucy on. :-)

Lucy mentioned on the ET Emmy's bit that she was hoping to see Judge Judy there, that she was "her hero." Well, SNL gave her the chance. Close to the end of this skit, the real Judge Judy entered and kicked Sheri Oteri out of the bench, and made the ruling. Very cool.

Also, I must say, Lucy does a pretty good low-class New York accent. Check it out in the sound clips below.

  Judge Judy (Sheri Oteri): "Hey, hey, I got a story for you. It's called 'The Day I Killed the Whore Clown.' Zip it."

  Defendant: "Well, first of all, your honor, my sweet little boy will never be the same after playing her version of 'Pin the Tail on the Donkey.'"
  Lucy: "No big deal. I couldn't find a damn donkey, so I had the kids put the tails on my butt. An ass is an ass, am I right? Am I right?"

  Lucy: "I never took no courses, but my mother really encouraged me. Whenever the circus came to town, she would drop me off and leave me for days.
  Defendant: "Hm. Is that where your mother taught you to make those disgusting animal balloons?"
  Lucy: "No, they are my own design, tight ass."
