Who's Hot?

Renee O'Connor

Her character's name might not be emblazoned on the opening credits of the show, but Renee O'Connor, who plays Gabrielle, sidekick to Xena (former Who's Hot Lucy Lawless) can definitely hold her own. And we're not talking about just on the show.

Oh sure, O'Connor doesn't have as many websites as the vixen Lawless, but she's getting there. There's a site dedicated to the acroynmical ROC; "Miss Gabrielle's Home for Wandering Bards," and many others celebrating O'Connor's total coolness.

What else makes her totally cool? They're about to make Gabrielle action figures!

She's so cool, she's totally hot.

She's the blonde to Xena's brunette, the petite to Xena's Amazon, the innocent to Xena's experience. As Xena travels through her adventures, trying to right any wrongs she's done in her past, she has the ever loyal Gabrielle by her side.

And yes, the producers and Lawless herself have laughingly acknowledged the show's tremendous popularity with the lesbian audience. Lawless has coyly said they're not going to do anything to dispel anyone's concept of the show.

Whatever reason you love the show, you can't help but love the lovely O'Connor. The green-eyed Katy, Texas (you didn't realize she was a southern gal, did ya?) was born on February 15, 1971 and currently makes her home in both L.A., Calif. and Auckland, New Zealand. She's single, but does have a boyfriend (unnamed) in the U.S.A.

O'Connor made her acting debut at eight in her hometown of Katy at the "Theater on Wheels" The 1989 attendee and graduate of the Houston High School of Performing and Visual Arts.

Jazz dancing, horseback riding, other sports She made her professional acting debut that same year in the "Teen Angel" serial, which was featured on the Disney Channel's "Mickey Mouse Club," and went on to star in "Match Point," another "MMC" serial.

O'Connor then moved to Los Angeles and soon landed a featured role in the episode of "Tales from the Crypt" that marked Arnold Schwarzenegger's directing debut. O'Connor later played Cheryl Ladd's daughter in Danielle Steel's "Changes," and starred as one of a group of students in NBC's movie "The Flood."

Her most recent theatrical film role was that of Julia Wilkes in Disney's "The Adventures of Huck Finn," starring Elijah Wood. She also guest- starred as the daughter of a murdered couple in an episode of ABC' s "NYPD Blue."

O'Connor first came to the attention of executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi when an audition won her the role of the young Deianeira in their two-hour "Action Pack" adventure "Hercules and the Lost Kingdom. " They impressed enough by her that they signed her for a starring role in "Darkman II: The Return of Durant."

She also appeared with Ellen Burstyn and Sheryl Lee in the ABC telefilm "Follow the River," portraying a young woman captured by Shawnee Indians.

She then starred opposite TV legend James Garner as a self-obsessed actress who hires Rockford as her bodyguard in "The Rockford Files: A Blessing in Disguise," the second of Garner's two recent "Rockford" reunion movies for CBS which was broadcast in May 1995.

Anxious to meet O'Connor in person? She'll be a guest at a Hercules-Xena Convention at the Convention Center in Valley Forge, PA, Oct 4-5. Hudson Leick and Robert Trebor will also be there. O'Connor is set to attend another Hercules-Xena Convention at the Masonic Center in San Francisco, Oct 18-19.

We'll be there if we can - we wouldn't miss an opportunity to see one of our new all-time fave babe, Renee O'Connor.

"Xena Warrior Princess" airs weekly in syndication.
